Today you are You,
That is truer than true.
There is no one alive
who is Youer than You.
-Dr. Suess, Happy Birthday to You
Life, in all forms, inspires my work. My hope for any painting is to convey that undefinable spark, or spirit, that makes a thing alive.
Like life, my work constantly evolves. Lately, I’ve enjoyed exploring our relationship with nature and animals. Hiking, traveling, and my dog inspire me, along with works of writers and poets such as Henry David Thoreau’s essay, “Walking” and Wendell Berry’s poem, “The Peace of the Wild Things.”
I paint using acrylics, and enjoy playing with bright, contrasting colors. While I have no formal art education other than high school art classes, through practice and trusting my intuition, my art continues to evolve. I like to view my art as a “practice.” I will never consider myself a master. I simply continue to practice and watch my work transform as my life flows and unfolds.
